Hiring an agency to build a WordPress site removes most of the technical burden, but it shifts the risk onto picking the right vendor. Here’s what’s worth checking before signing anything.
Ask to see real work
A portfolio of live sites, ideally in a similar industry, tells you more than a pitch deck. Ask specifically what happened on a project that didn’t go smoothly. Every agency with enough history has one, and how they talk about it is informative.
Before signing with an agency
Get the scope in writing
Confirm exactly what’s included: number of pages, whether copywriting is covered, how many rounds of revisions, and what happens after launch. “Website design” means different things to different agencies, and vague scoping is the most common source of disputes later.
Understand what happens after handoff
Some agencies hand over a finished site and disappear; others offer ongoing maintenance and content support. Neither is wrong, but you should know which one you’re buying, and what it costs to keep the site updated once the initial contract ends.
