Good WordPress site design isn’t about chasing the latest visual trend. It’s about making sure a visitor understands what the business does and what to do next, within a few seconds of landing on the page.
Clarity over cleverness
The homepage headline should state plainly what the business does. Clever taglines that require explanation cost conversions, however good they look in a design mockup.
A clear next step on every page
Every page should point toward one obvious action (contact, book, buy) rather than leaving the visitor to figure out what to do. Pages with too many competing calls to action tend to convert worse than pages with one clear one.
Mobile first, not mobile-adjusted
Design the mobile layout as the primary experience and let the desktop version expand from it, rather than the reverse, since most business site traffic now arrives on a phone, and a design that was only checked on desktop often breaks in small but costly ways on mobile.
Four design principles
Consistency builds trust
Consistent colors, fonts, and spacing across every page signal professionalism in a way visitors register even if they can’t articulate why. A site that looks different on every page reads as unfinished, regardless of how good any individual page looks alone.
